All about Sydney

Sydney is the capital of South Wales and the most populated city in Australia. In Sydney, the people are known as Sydneysiders, which are comprised of international and cosmopolitan dwellers. Sydney was established in 1788 by Arthur Philip, a commodore. The city was built on Port Jackson, known as Sydney Harbour, which sits the famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The area features many national parks, rivers, and beaches, including the Bondi Beach and Hyde Park.

When it comes to corporate travel in Sydney you won't be bored. After a long day in a meeting, head to the beach and meet the locals or catch a game. Some of the sports you will in Sydney are cricket and rugby. It housed the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2003 Rugby World Cup.

The climate in Sydney ranges from warm summers and mild winters. The warmest month is January. In January of 1939, the highest temperature was 113.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest month is July with a temperature of 46 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain occurs anytime of the year. The city has never seen snow, but there has been dwellers who have mistaken hail for snow.

Sydney has many heritage architectural buildings, including the Queen Victoria Building, Australian Museum, and Parliament House. The style of each building varies. It can range from Gothic Revival to Queen Anne. Many well-known architects designed the buildings including James Barnet who created the General Post Office and Edmund Blacket who designed St. Andrew's Cathedral.

The economy is increasing in Sydney. A few of the sectors that are growing are business, property, and retail. Sydney houses the Australian Securities Exchange and Reserve Bank of America. The city has 90 banks and 500 multinational corporations. Half of Australia's top companies are housed in Sydney as well.

When it comes to shopping in Sydney some of the streets you will find people are on Pitt, King, and George streets. The Queen Victoria Building houses many of the city's stores. Find department stores, such as David Jones, which is located in the city centre where major clothing labels can be found. Besides shopping, Sydney is home to many educational institutions, such as the University of Sydney and the University of the New South Wales, just to name a few.
